Our Place is a family home owned by a four generation family living in Missouri, Ohio, Illinois, Kansas and Romania.  It was purchased in 2006 for the purpose of establishing retirement homes for family members.  While the Great Grandmother of the family is already retired and living in John Knox Village, a wonderful retirement community in Lees Summit, MO the next generation (great grandma’s children and their spouses) won’t start retiring until sometime after 2020.  For that reason, the family decided to make their home available to other families for their vacation enjoyment until such time our own family retirements begin.

With such an idea in mind, we searched for, and ultimately selected, a property manager who was experienced in catering to the vacation needs of multi generational families as they gathered together at the Lake of the Ozarks.  When we initially established the living arrangements at Our Place, our family consisted of 19 core members with one on the way.  That is the reason Our Place is designed to accommodate 20.  If you have 2 or 3 more, and if they happen to be of the younger persuasion, it is not difficult to make arrangements for their comfort.  However, sleeping accommodations for adults is a little more limited.  This is a good time to introduce you to the house!

Our Place, located in Shawnee Bend 3 on the west side of the Lake of the Ozarks, about 10 minutes from Bagnell Dam, is situated on 350 feet of sheltered lake front just across the cove from Point Oasis and Bambooze, also located on Shawnee Bend 3.  The family vacation living arrangements are set up in two distinctly different houses.  The main house is a 2 story, 5 bedroom, 3 bath home that is about 6 vertical feet from the lake, and about 20 steps from the back door to the edge of the water.  The family home features 3 rooms with king sized, memory foam mattress beds, and 2 rooms with queen size beds. 

The upper level king suite also includes a private bath with walk in shower, assistance hand rails on both the commode and the shower, and a 17 ½ inch high commode for ease of access.  Some of our family members have medical experiences with hip, back and heart problems, and we try to think about the comfort of others when we make improvements and improve accommodations at the house.
Our family simply loves meal time, and the opportunity it gives us to sit down together and enjoy the interaction of the generations, personalities and experiences of the various members of the group.  For that reason, the main kitchen on the second floor is arranged to provide a place for the entire family to gather as one.  A huge dining table capable of seating 14 is the central feature in the dining room that is directly adjacent to the kitchen.  Between the kitchen and the dining room is a low breakfast bar that can seat 3 to 6 additional people.  High quality folding chairs and tables (2 tables, 12 chairs) are also available if needed.  These are kept in the utility room at the bottom of the stairs leading to the lower level.

Our focus has been, and will always be, on family.  And with that in mind, we put some extra touches on the Boat House that is next to the Main House.  The Boat House includes a king sized bed, also with memory foam mattress, and a sleeper sofa.   So, if need be, 4 people can quite easily stay in the Boat House.  It is also the perfect place for that newlywed couple in the family, or, for Great Grandmother and Grandfather, a place where they can slip away for that mid afternoon nap that some of us have come to appreciate all too well.

The Boat House is also equipped with a full kitchen that is only lacking an automatic dishwasher (we just ran out of space!).  Central heat and air conditioning ensures that the temperature can always be set to your comfort.  A large, picture window provides a beautiful view of the cove, including the water toys, and, quite probably, the kids who are out playing in the water!
